Lodovico Roberto runs a small winery in Northern Piedmont, more precisely in the Bramaterra DOC, between the historic wine regions of Lessona and Gattinara. He left his land in 2015 to study, work and learn in France among Beaujolais, Burgundy and Champagne, before returning home to replant and bring forgotten plots back to life.
The project began in 2021, when Lodovico gathered a series of small parcels around the village of Casa del Bosco, where he lives and has his cellar. Since then, he has worked intentionally to revive ancient vineyards and preserve the oldest vines.
Bramaterra is an area with a complex and unique terroir, marked by volcanic soil and a cool climate that gives the grapes a distinctive minerality and freshness. The plots Lodovico works with are scattered within and around Casa del Bosco – an area rich in both history and biodiversity. The oldest vineyards preserve an extraordinary ampelographic heritage: alongside the historic varieties of this land, rare vines still survive and are still being identified, silent witnesses to centuries-old viticulture.
Work in the field and in the cellar
Work in the vineyard is carried out with respect for nature and the local heritage. All the vineyards follow the principles of ICEA-certified organic farming.
The harvest takes place as late as possible, with extremely careful selection, using only the most perfect bunches. Work in the vineyard is the foundation of everything: this is where quality is created, and the better the grapes are, the less needs to be done in the cellar.
In the cellar, Lodovico works based on a minimal-intervention philosophy. The wines develop naturally without the addition of industrial oenological products, and the goal is always to preserve the purity and expression of the grapes.
